The University of Texas of the Permian Basin (UTPB) is a dynamic and growing campus serving more than 6,000 students. As a result of its growth, a new freshman residence hall opened in 2016. The hall includes 300 fully furnished, spacious, co-ed, 4-person and 2-person suites. The facility also includes study rooms, lounge areas, and a 300-capacity, two-story dining hall.
It was critical for UTPB to furnish the new hall with durable products in all environments, as well as solutions that could easily reconfigure, particularly in study spaces, common areas, and within rooms.
KI provided multiple workable options, collaborating to create innovative and customized solutions for every space in the building.
Public and study spaces showcase various multifunctional pieces such as MyWay® lounge seating and Hub® modular seating to offer optimum versatility. Living suites feature RoomScape® furniture, which gives students the flexibility to personalize and reconfigure rooms quickly and easily with fast, tool-less assembly.
Chermae Peel, UTPB Director of Student Housing
We knew we wanted to mix and match pieces, and KI delivered.
UTPB received an individualized design solution that fit all of its needs and desires for multifunctional, student-focused spaces.
“All of the KI solutions provide students with so much flexibility,” said Chermae Peel, Director of Student Housing. “It’s a sophisticated feel, yet it also functions. The spaces look amazing but they’re also accessible and very user friendly. KI helped us create a unique, clean, and interesting look.”
Part of the aesthetic is the use of branded school colors throughout. Colorful, durable, and functional designs support all the ways students use each space - from the quiet study rooms with individual cubbies on every floor, to the vibrant dining hall.
