Cornerstone Clinic for Women

Little Rock, Arkansas

Designing a Healthcare Experience That Feels Like Home

When Cornerstone Clinic for Women set out to expand, they envisioned more than just additional space; they wanted to reimagine the patient experience. Physicians at Cornerstone sought to create a second location that felt cohesive with the original yet offered something distinctly fresh: a calm, inviting, spa-like environment that was unlike any typical medical clinic.

"Our physicians were adamant the new space needed to reflect the same care and intentionality as our main location," said Carson Copeland, clinic administrator. "We didn't want to just slap paint on the walls and call it done. We wanted the space to feel like an investment, and it does. That says a lot to our patients and our community."

To bring their vision to life, Cornerstone partnered with architect Josh Newton, LiveCo Construction, and Shine Interior Design Studioa team known for blending beauty, function, and wellness in their projects.

The Shine team was tasked with creating an ethereal, hospitality-inspired environment that prioritized the patient experience without compromising on performance, durability, or budget.

Flexible design-forward solutions from KI and Pallas Textiles, a division of KI, played a pivotal role in creating a space that supports healing, comfort, and care.

We wanted to make this clinic feel less institutional and more welcoming.

Blending Hospitality Aesthetics with Healthcare Performance

Breezeel leaned into hospitality design principles to transform Cornerstone’s new clinic into a spa-like experience. Drawing inspiration from natural materials and movement, the team prioritized air quality, soft textures, and calming aesthetics.

Key drivers behind the product selections were flexibility, particularly in material choices, customization, and budget-conscious options.

"We really loved that we could mix up our powdercoat paints, edge bandings, and fabric choices,” said Breezeel. “It allowed us to stay on brand and maintain a high-end, custom look.”

Cleanability and durability were equally essential. Working closely with Glen Jones & Associates and the KI support team, Shine selected products that would withstand rigorous cleaning protocols without sacrificing visual warmth or tactile comfort.

Throughout the clinic, fabric selection from Pallas Textiles made an impact as well. From rich plums and calming greens to textural neutrals, the selected fabrics offered both tactile softness and visual movement, supporting the clinic’s ethereal, nature-inspired design.

“We wanted fabrics that had depth and hand, something that felt plush and calming, but could still be wiped clean. Pallas gave us that.”

For Breezeel, KI seating solutions, such as Affina and Katera, offered the ideal blend of style, comfort, and healthcare-grade performance. The wallsaver design and bariatric options of Katera supported a wide range of needs, while Affina lounge seating with wood accents and soft upholstery helped create an atmosphere more akin to a boutique hotel than a doctor’s office.

“With the Affina line, I love that there’s warmth in the wood trim features,” Breezeel said. “ With the winged high-back lounge chairs, we were able to create a feeling of a hotel lobby.”

Mixing products from the Affina line provides guests with the opportunity to choose between tandem seating, guest chairs, and lounge chairs in the same space.

Comfort and security drove the selection of Katera bariatric seating for lobbies, exam rooms, and even offices.

“There’s so much versatility, and Katera is so comfortable. I can see it being used more and more, given the options to customize it,” Breezeel added.

Tributaire tables and Sonrisa occasional tables added architectural elegance and functionality in lobbies and exam rooms, while LimeLite cafe stools provided ergonomic comfort in high-use breakroom and tech bar areas.

“Everybody was so impressed by the LimeLite stools,” said Breezeel. “They’re comfortable enough to work, lounge, or eat in, and the customization options made our job so much easier.”

Award-Winning Design, Powered by a Purposeful Partnership

Working with KI was new for Shine, said Breezeel, but the team made the process easy.

“We wanted to use color and solutions that were user-driven,” she said. “To go the hospitality route and focus on a truly patient-centric spa-like experience was really important.”

KI made that possible.

From exam rooms to infusion therapy suites, every space at Cornerstone Clinic for Women was designed to promote healing, comfort, and care.

Because of KI's product flexibility and collaborative support, Shine Interior Design was able to deliver a fully realized space without sacrificing budget or design integrity.

When a clinic feels intentional, calming, and well-designed, people are more likely to stay. That’s the added bonus of doing it right. We’ve had so many compliments. People still walk in and say, ‘Wow, this doesn’t feel like a doctor’s office.'

The project has already received local acclaim for its innovation and empathy-driven design. Breezeel and her colleagues were awarded an ASID South-Central Chapter Excellence in Design Award for their work.

“I’m overjoyed that we got to finish this project the right way,” said Breezeel. “With KI, we didn’t have to reinvent the wheel. The options allowed us to be creative and responsive to what the staff and patients needed, and that’s what made this so successful.”
