Franklin County librarian competes in national competition for new furniture

WAYNESBORO, Pa. (WHTM) — An elementary school librarian in Franklin County may be bringing more than just new books to her school’s library; she may win it a whole makeover.

Jennifer Smith of Mowrey Elementary School in Waynesboro is one of 12 finalists in KI’s national classroom furniture giveaway.

Hundreds of teachers across the country submitted designs for their dream classroom or library to enter the giveaway.

Smith’s design is a colorful library with different zones catered to the needs of students with different learning styles as well as students with autism.

If selected as a winner, the library would also have features such as “wobble seating” to help kids get their wiggles out. The goal of the design is to create a welcoming “coffee shop vibe” in the school’s library.

Of the 12 finalists, four will receive $40,000 worth of furniture turn their designs into realities. The winners will be chosen through an online public vote, which is open now through Wednesday, January 31.
