Columbia third-grade teacher in national competition for classroom furniture
COLUMBIA − A third-grade teacher at Alpha Hart Lewis Elementary School has been selected as a finalist in a classroom furniture giveaway.
Cortney Schneider is one of 12 finalists in KI Furniture's giveaway, which had hundreds of applicants. KI is giving up to $40,000 worth of classroom furniture to the grand prize winners.
Schneider submitted the video above to KI and emphasized a need for new furniture, specifically pointing out the bulky desks.
"New furniture would be such a great motivator," Schneider said. "Teaching and learning have changed so much over the last few years. Unfortunately, the furniture in my classroom has not made that change."
Schneider's classroom is among three finalists in the "western" portion of the giveaway, along with a sixth-grade classroom in Chula Vista, California, and a fifth-grade classroom in Renton, Washington.
Supporters can select the grand prize winner from each region by voting online through Jan. 31. No email or sign up is required. Winners will be announced on Feb. 2 on KI's social media channels.
