KI donation hopes to bring comfort and security to Green Bay shelters
GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- An area furniture manufacturer is hoping its donation will bring comfort and security to those in need this holiday season.
KI is donating dozens of solid-wood bedframes to three area shelters:
- St. John’s Ministries in Green Bay will receive 32 beds
- NEW Community Shelter in Green Bay will receive 28 beds
- Foundations Health & Wholeness of Green Bay will receive 12 beds
On Wednesday,KI employees helped unload the bedframes, produced at its Manitowoc facility, and assemble them.
Shelter officials say often times, they have the mattresses but not always beds.
“One of our core beliefs is making a difference in the lives of others,” said Brian Krenke, CEO of KI. “Many of us don’t give a second thought to having a bed to sleep in, but for organizations helping the homeless, beds are always in short supply."
Steve Schauer of St. John's Ministries says the beds will go in the facility's sobriety room meant to provide residents a safe space to focus on self-improvement.
“We’re extremely grateful and humbled by their generosity but really what it’s doing is for a male guest that wants to move forward, that may have an addiction to alcohol or drugs and is ready to become sober, to take that next step in life, to become housed, to become employed and really to take care of themselves, this provides that dignity to that male guest and really is the integrity piece; they have a nice single bed that they can later head down at night in warmth and know that as they’re working on themselves, there’s somebody at KI, the community, that’s taking care of them, that cares about them," Schauer said.
